NOTE- _______About large litters, females breed a number of times for a period of several days during standing heat. In large litters some pups will be smaller , not because of being runts but because of day of conception. The first day of conception starts gestation period normally 56-66 days with 63 being average gestation time. The eggs do not all get fertile on same day. A true runt is when there is only 1 day of breeding. Multiple breedings will make some 1- 5 days older then others. In a large litter Mom has a higher demand on her feeding pups, like having football team for breakfast. Small pups can and often do catch up with others soon after weaning and a few weeks after that because of genetic make up. It comes and continues to play a role as to the final size of the dog. We rotate pups so to make feeding as even as possible. Worming regularly also helps pups grow properly, that and diet.
