PYRENEES PUPS-NOTES FROM BREEDER At birth Pyrenees pups are born with eyes shut until about 16 days old. They all have pink noses, gums and around eyes. The pigment begins arriving from day two to about 10 weeks old. Although most have it in about 3 to 6 weeks. The pigment is very important to get proper expression for show ring. Ears are closed at birth and open in a few days. They look a lot like Golden Retriever pups, but heavier boned and of course a different color and are hairier. At three weeks when we post photos on web , is not the best time for picking pups, but due to a rush for pups this is the earliest we price our pups. At that age they have only had their eyes open 5 or so days and they have just started to get around after Mom. They are hard to photograph because they don’t stand far off the ground at that age my little toddlers ,but that does not last long because it is like they double in size in days. So in viewing these big little guys, you have to view these cute faces as to what you think they will be as an adult. Now some pups may be bigger than others at this age, but that can change between litter mates. Males do usually have longer coats compared to female -allot like Collies- the male is bigger and hairier than female and larger boned. Pyrenees like lions -the female is more active and than the male. Male Pyrenees has more power and when needed will be there. Both should be good with kids .Pyrenees are known to have outstanding personalities and we have heard no different from our customers of the pups. Many full grown Pyrenees will let 2 & 3 year olds walk them with out pulling and do just as well with senior citizens. Do they wonder? Some do, if they get bored and there is nothing at home ,but they usually return if no one steals them first. It is a good idea to get your pup micro chipped and wearing a tag. A good neighbor is one that applies the Golden Rule and doesn`t let there dog over on others property tearing into trash and messing in yard. Nobody likes to clean after another mans dog. Pyrenees do very good in the house with very little training, and are very, very easy to potty train -if kids were that easy- That being said they can not just stay in house all the time, they naturally have been bred for wide open spaces, so a PYRENEES IS NOT A DOG TO TIE TO A TREE AND A DOG HOUSE OR STUCK IN A 8X10 OUSIDE KENNEL, no more than a lion or a bear would be. The only time that they should be penned up like that is when in heat ,or nursing pups. They don`t seem to feel as bad if penned in house as pups ,I guess because they feel close to owners den so to speak. They are more active at night, they patrol grounds. If you want quite and you live in the woods ,bringing them in the house often works if there is wild deer and other animals running around. Most Pyrenees keep animal strangers at bay. Livestock guardians spaying and neutering is a good idea. Because if you have a male and there is any female any where near you, your dog may leaver his post when a bitch is in season and a female Pyrenees is receiving callers when in heat, even a male coyote if that all that’s around during a standing heat, that she would have drove away any other time. Young pups sleep a lot ,because their bodies are growing so much, and go potty when they wake up just like I do and they go after 5 to 10 minutes after they eat. And if playing a lot and it starts sniffing it wants to go .Don`t feed your dog before leaving for along time if it is in the house . When you discipline use a rolled news paper, it scares them but doesn`t hurt and use a firm no bad dog said n a growl tone, At the place of mistake pointing nose at wrong doing. take your dog there, don`t call him then punish- because you will teach him not to come if you do this. Mom teaches her pups and bears teach their cubs .They walk a lot like bears slow ,but very capable of moving at very fast speeds threw the woods and briers unscathed. Their coats are a lot like collie from behind . Carrying tail hanging down ,or gaily in wagon wheel over back when happy. Tail hair on young pup takes time to plume out but it will, first comes the feathering the legs they are suppose to have single dew claw on front and double dew claws on back legs if they don`t they get disqualified from show ring ,it shows the purity of the breed just like chows have to have blue tongues and Newfoundland have to have web feet. Our dogs are working dogs so I don`t need to trim regular nails but do need to keep up on dew claws because the ground does not wear them down. Male pups should have more masculine head and get more of a mane than the female. You don`t want runny eyes or noses. Some pups of other breeds take a good while to get past that wild puppy stage, Pyrenees hardly go through that. They are not nervous or wiggly pups and when little they hug like a teddy bear and they even sometime grunt like a bear cub. But another thing they like to do is get in trash just like a bear too. Smiles- Enjoy your pup-DEBORAHANN ADAMS BREEDER
